Dear Lawndale Staff and Community,

At our Board meeting on Thursday of this week, I will be sharing information about the potential for school reopening. I will share various aspects of what it would mean to open schools, including the following:

  • How the district has prepared with our Safe, Clean, Ready! Plan;

  • The current state of vaccines for our staff and community;

  • The pros and cons of changing from Distance Learning to In-Person learning; and

  • Using an equity lens to make decisions about our students’ education

I will be meeting today and tomorrow with our labor union Presidents and parent leaders to share information and listen to their questions, comments and concerns.

Speaking of opportunities to provide input, the City of Lawndale is hosting two meetings to gain the public’s input on their General Plan. There are two meetings scheduled to obtain community members’ ideas or answer questions. Click on the link  to join the meeting March 9 (Spanish) or March 23 (English).

I hope this finds you and your family in good health. We are here to support you!

Learn About Alternative Dispute Resolution

The field of education is filled with technical terms, detailed reports, and federal guidelines. However, one of the major components that isn’t discussed is the relationship between the family and the school in their effort to best serve the student. However, there are bound to be moments when the district and family do not see eye-to-eye.

In those moments, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) may be appropriate. ADR is a service that the SELPA provides to individuals, giving them an opportunity to resolve disagreements in a safe, positive, and efficient manner. This presentation will outline the ADR services and fill you in on how the SELPA can help during IEP meetings.

To RSVP, please email Crystal Lopez at and you will receive a zoom link to connect to the meeting.

Meeting Date: April 19, 2021 | Time: 2:00 - 3:00 P.M.
