Tell Me Something Good Campaign

Our Mitchell community garden is blooming - bringing together Aviators, butterflies, and a whole lot of joy! This vibrant space continues to nourish both our bodies and our connections.

Mitchell’s Friendship Club celebrated Autism Awareness Month with sensory-friendly slime-making! Students got creative with glitter, colors, and fun add-ins while learning the importance of inclusive activities.

District and school staff, along with parent leaders, recently visited the LBUSD Center of Black Student Excellence. During the visit, they had the opportunity to explore the center’s programs and resources, observe best practices in action, and gather ideas for supporting student success in our own schools.

We are excited to share that our Director of Nutrition and Wellness, Lissette Rooney, was elected President-Elect for Regional Chapter 1 of the California School Nutrition Association! In this role, she is preparing to lead the chapter in the 2026–27 school year.

Our incredible PS Arts table, led by Ms. Sarah, brings out the creativity of our Aviators during lunchtime. Students engage in fun and festive art activities guided by Ms. Sarah, who inspires them to explore and showcase their artistic talents.

Our Aviator community is excited to introduce Billy Mitchell’s first Student Leadership group, proudly made up of 11 fourth- and fifth-grade students. These student leaders are already making an impact by amplifying student voice, contributing ideas for PBIS activities, supporting school events as ambassadors, and helping strengthen our school community.

In January, William Anderson Elementary School kicked off the new year with a warm and welcoming 'Coffee With the Principal and Community Schools' event held by Mr. Corrinet and Ms. Kisalyn Michael during morning arrival. Despite the early hour and cold temperatures, families were greeted with smiles, conversation, 80's dance music, and the beloved Anderson hot and iced house brew to create a welcoming and energizing start to the day.

Anderson Elementary and Twain Elementary have BOTH earned “Exemplary” ratings on their recent facilities visits from the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE)!

At Smith Elementary, the P.E. program looks for creative ways to integrate English Language Arts and Math into physical activity. Led by their P.E. teachers and assistants, one example of such an activity had students practicing foot-dribbling using soccer balls while reinforcing their literacy skills. The goal was to dribble the ball with control while spelling their grade-level high-frequency words.

Every Wednesday during lunch, our Master Level Social Work Intern, Anne Rickard, leads a Yoga/Mindfulness Group that has quickly become a favorite for many students. This weekly gathering gives students a peaceful moment in the middle of their day to breathe, stretch, and focus on their emotional well-being.
