California Healthy Kids Survey CHKS

The California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) is a modular and anonymous assessment designed to gather critical data in five key areas that support school and student improvement:

  • Student connectedness, learning engagement/motivation, and attendance
  • School climate, culture, and conditions
  • School safety, including violence, bullying, and victimization
  • Physical and mental well-being, as well as social-emotional learning
  • Student supports, including caring relationships, high expectations, and meaningful opportunities for participation

The CHKS provides valuable insights that help schools enhance their programs and make data-informed decisions—particularly in alignment with the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP).

Three groups are surveyed: 5th and 7th-grade students, parents/guardians, and school staff.

Students

All 5th and 7th-grade students will take the survey during class time between February 17 and February 27, 2026. Parents and guardians are welcome to review the survey questions in advance. If you have any questions or prefer that your child not participate, please contact your school office.

Parents/Guardians

The California School Parent Survey is a confidential way to gather family feedback about the school’s learning environment, overall climate, student supports, and efforts to engage families. The survey also provides important data on the level and nature of parent involvement, including relationships with school staff, participation in school activities, and support for student learning. Our district values your insights and is grateful for your response! The parent/guardian survey will be sent on February 23, 2026.  If you need help completing the survey, do not hesitate to contact your school office for assistance.

Staff

Staff members will complete the survey during school hours. School administrators will provide access and instructions directly to their teams.
