In 2024, the district changed the name from DELAC (District English Learner Advisory Committee) to District Community of Multilingual Families (DELAC) to emphasize inclusivity and celebrate diverse linguistic backgrounds. The new name highlights multilingualism, fosters community engagement, better represents the district's diverse population, and aligns with broader educational goals of supporting all families. This change aims to create a more welcoming and supportive environment for everyone.

About our Community of Multilingual Families

The District Community of Multilingual Families (DELAC) was created to build a community of parents and school staff dedicated to the support of multilingual students and their families. Our purpose is to create a space where we can all share our experiences, ask questions, and, most importantly, collaborate to improve the learning outcomes of our students.

As parents, you will have the opportunity to learn alongside the school staff about our school plans, the programs we offer, and the ways we can work together to support all our multilingual students. The agenda is created in collaboration with you, the parents. As a team, we can make recommendations that truly meet the needs of each student. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of our students.

All meetings are open to the community. Members and non-members are welcome.

Join us in making a difference by helping us with:

  • Developing or revising the district master plan of education programs and services for English learners
  • Conducting district-wide needs assessments on a school-by-school basis
  • Establishing district English learner program goals and objectives
  • Developing a plan to ensure compliance with teacher and instructional aide requirements
  • Analyzing the annual language census
  • Reviewing and making recommendations to the district’s reclassification procedures
  • Reviewing and commenting on written notifications to parents

 How our Committees Work

Our advisory committees collaborate effectively to provide guidance on both school-level and district-level programs ensuring that parent and community perspectives are integrated into the entire decision making process:

  • The School Site Council (SSC) works closely with the District Parent Advisory Committee (DPAC) on various related topics relating to our Title I budget and programs for low-income and underperforming student groups.
  • The School Site Community of Multilingual Families Committee (ELAC) partners with the District Community of Multilingual Families Committee (DELAC) to address issues relevant to multilingual learners.

We encourage you to actively participate in your school-level committees and expand your involvement by joining district-level committees as well. Your voice is vital in shaping our educational community and ensuring that it reflects the needs and aspirations of all families!
