dance performance

The Music Center is offering a full-length recording of the world famous ballet “Revelations” by Alvin Ailey. It will be available trough September 30th at no cost. This work is relevant to Dance, Music, History/Social Studies (past and current events), Physical Education, and Visual Art (costume design). Students will identify with the dance style and that the connections to current events will be clear.

The ballet is under 30 minutes long, but it is in three acts and can be viewed one act at a time. At the end of each act, Hope Boykin, a member of the Alvin Ailey Dance Company, teaches a few movements from the choreography to the viewers. She does it in a friendly and accessible way.

In addition, the ballet is introduced and explained by Matthew Rushing, Associate Artistic Director of Alvin Ailey Dance Company. Matthew is a native of Inglewood, CA which provides another special connection to our students.

The three acts are:

“I Been ‘Buked”

“Wade in the Water”

“Rocka My Soul”
